Paper over spine is torn with wear to extremities. Joints had been repaired with tape at one time, but the adhesive has dried and the tape has fallen off. White adhesive remnants on front, back, and spine. Interior is in good condition; rebinding would benefit this imporant volume. This edition had 750 copies. Includes notes for lectures, anti-slavery notes, the eighteenth presidency, introductions intended for American editions of "Leaves of Grass," introduction to the London edition, manuscript "to the foreign reader."
