Volumes 1 and 2 of a two-volume set. Books are in the Russian language. Exlibrary markings. Square, tight binding and hinges. Clean but age-darkened text pages. Paper over boards is generally shelf worn with bumped corners small scraped area at bottom of spine on Vol. 2 where library label was removed. Gilt lettering bright. 444 numbered pp. In Vol. 1; 606 in Vol. 2. Illustrated with black and white photographs of military equipment and other military subjects, as well as maps. Fold-out black and white map bound in Vol. 1 is in near fine condition. Two fold-out color maps in sleeve in back of Vol. 1 have library stamp on back with pencil lettering in margin, else near fine. Volume 2 has fold-out color map of Europe after the War and the October Revolution bound in book in near fine condition (a little age-darkened). Very detailed history of World War I from the Soviet Russian perspective, although the Western Front is also considered. Because of the quality of the paper used - a pulp paper typical of Izdatelstvo Nauka in the 1970s - the quality of the illustrations is less than optimum, but still the book depicts many scenes that are not easy to find in Western histories of the War.
